B.Tech Fresher Resume Format (2026)

A B.Tech resume is read for stack depth and buildable projects — branch and CGPA get you past the filter, projects get you the interview.

Section order, top to bottom

Order matters more than styling. Both an ATS parser and a recruiter reading for six seconds weight the top of the page hardest, so the strongest evidence goes first.

    Contact details
    Name, city, one phone number, one professional email, LinkedIn URL. No photo, no age, no marital status, no full postal address — Indian templates often include these and they cost you space while adding nothing an ATS reads.

    Education
    Degree with branch spelled out ("B.Tech, Computer Science and Engineering"), institution, graduation year, CGPA. Mass recruiters filter hard on CGPA and backlog status — if you have no active backlogs and the form asks, say so.

    Technical skills
    Higher than for other freshers, because it is the filter. Group as Languages / Frameworks / Tools / Databases. Be honest about depth — service companies test fundamentals, product companies test problem-solving.

    Projects
    Two to four, each with problem, stack, and outcome. For CSE/IT include the repo link. For core branches (Mechanical, Civil, ECE), include design tools used and any fabrication or simulation work.

    Internships
    Company, role, dates, two bullets of real output. In-plant training and industrial visits are not internships — label them accurately.

    Coding profiles
    LeetCode, Codeforces, HackerRank, GitHub. Include the handle only if the profile is genuinely active — a linked profile with three solved problems hurts more than no link.

    Achievements and certifications
    Hackathons, technical fests, NPTEL/Coursera certifications with real completion, department rank.

What to leave out

  • A photograph, DOB, father’s name, and the signed declaration block.
  • Class X and XII marks once you are more than a year past graduation.
  • Every lab course from the syllabus — the degree implies it.
  • Skill rating bars and percentage-proficiency graphics.

Terms an ATS looks for

Use the ones that genuinely apply to you, worded the way the job description words them. Matching is largely literal, so a synonym often does not count.

Getting this format right

  • Put the branch in words, not just initials — parsers match "Computer Science", not always "CSE".
  • For service-company drives, foreground fundamentals (DSA, DBMS, OOPS). For product roles, foreground shipped projects.
  • A GitHub link with real commit history is the highest-leverage line on a B.Tech fresher resume.
  • If your CGPA is below the common 6.0–7.0 cutoffs, leave it off and let projects carry the page.

Common mistakes

  • Listing the entire tech stack of a tutorial you followed as if it were your project.
  • Describing a group project without saying which part you built.
  • Padding with workshops and webinars attended.
  • Using the college-provided template with a photo box and declaration — it parses badly and dates you.
