About The Role:
As a Test Engineering Intern at Hermeus, you will play a pivotal role in developing, building, analyzing and operating test assets for our supersonic vehicles. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on groundbreaking technology in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. As part of this team, you will have the opportunity to work on a broad range of vehicle subsystems including hydraulic system, fuel system, mechanisms, high-voltage, mechanisms, airframe structural, and more!
Spring: Around 16 weeks (January - April)
Summer: Around 12 weeks (May - August)
Responsibilities:
• Support the design, development, manufacturing, implementation, and maintenance of test assets, including test facilities, fixtures, rigs, and supporting hardware.
• Design test fixtures, tooling, adapters, interfaces, panels, and other hardware used in test setups.
• Assist in developing test plans, procedures, and protocols for vehicle subsystems and components.
• Perform engineering analysis to help determine target test points, instrumentation requirements, and appropriate test safety margins.
• Support test design reviews and collaborate with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and technician teams to ensure alignment on test requirements and execution.
• Create CAD models, drawings, and manufacturing plans for test components, fixtures, and flight-like hardware as needed.
• Work directly with manufacturing and build teams to track hardware progress, troubleshoot issues, and support test readiness.
• Assist with the operation and troubleshooting of fluid, mechanical, and electrical test systems, including pumps, motors, heat exchangers, valves, regulators, accumulators, tubing, fittings, and high-voltage components.
• Support test execution, data collection, and troubleshooting of test hardware and systems.
• Maintain detailed documentation of test configurations, procedures, results, findings, and hardware changes.
• Identify opportunities to improve testing processes, hardware, and infrastructure and contribute to the development of new testing methods and capabilities.
Requirements:
• Practical experience designing, building, and testing vehicles through internships, studies or projects.
• Must be currently enrolled in a STEM program at an accredited college or university (undergraduate student in your third or fourth year of study, or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program).
• Strong interest in testing.
• Strong understanding of engineering first principles.
• Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams.
• Enthusiasm for aviation and Hermeus's mission.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• GPA of 3.0 or above.
